Social Discovery Network Tagged Acquires WeGame
Four months after launching its in-house game studio, social discovery network Tagged has acquired game-discovery site WeGame for an undisclosed amount.
"The WeGame team will immediately begin to contribute to our product and game studio teams, helping extend our industry leadership in social discovery," Tagged CEO Greg Tseng said in a statement.
With over 100M users, Tagged sees games as another way for its members to meet each other. The profitable site, founded in 2004, has branded itself as a social discovery network to set itself apart from Facebook.
Four-year-old WeGame is clearly a small fish: it has just over 2M users, and over 2.8M videos and screenshots of games have been captured and shared, WeGame CEO Jared Kim tells LAUNCH. WeGame had raised $3.5M from True Ventures, The Hit Forge, SoftTech VC, Felicis Ventures, Transmedia Capital, Ariel Poler, and Ryan Scott.
The most popular game sold on WeGames is RIFT from Trion Worlds while World of Warcraft is top for content created/shared, says Jared.
In April, Tagged acquired Digsby for its social IM product.
Disclosure: Jared Kim is the brother-in-law of LAUNCH founder Jason Calacanis, but Jason is not an investor.
