Klout Launching Topic Pages on over 10K Topics to Wider Audience
To make Klout a useful destination, Klout is allowing more people to see its over 10K topic pages that show the top 10 influencers in that topic and the content influencers on each topic are discussing, LAUNCH has learned. Klout announced its plan for topic pages in mid-August [ see our story. ]
Klout users who opted into the topic page "perk" last month can preview the pages right now. Tweeting about today's launch can help you get access faster.
"This is a big step for us in turning Klout into more of a utility around search and discover instead of pure vanity of checking your score," CEO Joe Fernandez tells LAUNCH by email. "This is a really early version of where we plan to take this but it speaks to our belief that every person who creates content has influence. Our goal is just to understand what they are influential about and who they influence."
In the next few months Klout will add further analytics, trends, and related content to the topic pages.
Klout has two lists of influencers -- its own and those Klout users have given the most "+K" to on that topic, or what it calls the "people's choice" list.
For example, the technology topic page lists Robert Scoble, Om Malik and Marshall Kirkpatrick as the most influential, but those with the most +K on technology are Hamlesh Motah, Mashable and Robert Scoble. To the right of each name on both lists are a few people who have given that influencer +K in technology. Those registered with Klout can give members of either list +K from the topic page.
The content page results are based on "analysis on every piece of content created across the 10 networks we cover to understand what people are talking about," Fernandez tells LAUNCH. The rankings change daily based on the content created.
The first two content results for the technology page right now are Rob Bailey's tweet about entrepreneurs getting booted from Pier 38 in San Francisco and Mark Essien's tweet about a computer beating him at chess but not kickboxing -- not necessarily the biggest stories of the moment.
